Notes:
From "An Historical Record of Livingston Co First 100 Years, Sept. 1937:
"A church leader in Dawn District
Residents of Dawn speak with respect and sincere appreciation of Robert Lee Knox, who for many years was one of the church and community leaders of that community.
He was the son of (Benjamin) Franklin and Eliza KNOX, and was born in 1861 on a farm two and one half miles east of Dawn, where his sister, Mrs. Cora Perry now resides.
In 1883 he married Miss Amy DAVIS, who was born at Plymouth, MO and reared a mile north of Blue Mound. At the time of their marriage they moved to a farm one mile west of Blue Mound, later purchasing a farm one mile east of Blue Mound where they reared their family and spent the greater part of their 50 years of companionship.
A few years ago Mrs. Knox`s health failed and they moved to the home of their daughter, Mrs. Charles Mantzey, near Dawn, who cared for both parents until their deaths. Mrs. Knox preceeded Mr. Knox in death by three years.
They were the parents of six children, Mrs. Elva Mantzey and (Benjamin) Raymond of Kansas City are those surviving.
While visiting in the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Maberry, in 1936, he was stricken and within a few hours he died.
Mr. Knox was a charter member of the Christian Church at Blue Mound, known as the Mount Hope Church. When a yound man he joined the church and for more than 50 years was always active and encouraged all enterprizes which dealt with the strengthening of the church body or for the betterment of the community.
As a leader in church work he was not surpassed. For years he was elder of the church, also a superintendent and teacher in the Sunday School at Mount Hope.
While visiting at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Mayberry, in 1936, he was striken and within a few hours died. His mission in the communitvat that time was for the cause of the church. He had come to the home of his niece, Mrs. Roy Sperry, to worship in a revival meeting that was in progress in New Salem. While his presence has been greatly missed since his death, the influence of so great a character lives on."
"Obituary of Robert Lee Knox"
"Robert, son of Franklin and Eliza Knox, was born Aug. 30, 1861 and passed from this life at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charles Mantzey, June 12, 1936.
Mr. Knox was striken of apoplexy and only lived a few hours.
On Oct. 17, 1883 he was united in marriage to Miss Amy Jane Davis of Blue Mound. To this union six children were born, one child dying in infancy.
Mrs. Knox passed away June 8, 1933. A daughter, Mrs. Agnes Simmons and two sons, John and Harvey, preceeded their parents in death.
Mr. Knox`s entire life was spent in Blue Mound township. He was a charter member of the Christian Church at Blue Mound and for 50 years or more was active in Christian work. He always stood for that which was uplifting in community life.
He leaves to cherish his memory, the daughter, a son, Raymond of Kansas City, eight grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Cora Barry and a host of friends.
No more will we feel his hand clasp No more will we see his smile, Bue in our midst his memory lingers His is with us all the while.
Memorial services were conducted at the Christian Church at Blue Mound at 10am Sunday, Rev. C. L. Stauffer of Chillicothe, assisted by Rev. Ira McClymounds of Dawn, officiating.
Music was furnished by a male quartet from Dawn. Albert Williams sang "Face to Face"."
