per Vicki Knox Larson, Ancestry.com, 11/8/1998: "Married in Brown Co, OH, later moved to IN when land became available. Settled near Center Twp. Other first settlers were William, Samuel and John SHIELDS. Shields and Knoxs were connected and some later moved to MO. Members of the Knox & Shields were noted in the "Shakers of OH", a Shaker journal. Some of them were involved in the movement in KY.
Moved north across Ohio River onto land on Eagle Creek in what then was Adams County, later to become Brown County, Ohio. He moved to Missouri by August 1844.
Per Vicki Knox Larson, Ancestry.com, Find a Grave 1/15/2011: Robert was 9 years old when his family joined the Shakers. It is not known when he left the community, but he married Jemima Ann Shields on November 18 1819, in Brown Co., Oh. This was after his mother and father, John and Esther Luckey Knox had died. It is not known where his parents were buried as they were with the Shaker community. There were journal entries, however, that gave John Knox`s death date as Nov 10, 1815 and Esther Luckey Knox`s death date as September 8, 1814. It is believed they died at West Union Village, Knox Co., IN.
DOB could be 7/4/1796 per PANGBURN family bible. Robert`s sister Nancy married a PANGBURN."

"History of Livingston and Caldwell Counties" In the early settlement of Livingston county and to the pioneers of this vicinity, the parents of the subject of this sketch, Robert and Jemima Knox, nee Shields, were well and favorably known, and their son Benjamin shares in the esteem which was given them. They became located in Eastern Indiana at an early days lived there until 1844 and they settled in this county and township, here spending the remainder of their lives. Twelve children were in their family; they were recognized as industrious, kind-hearted people, and bore their part of the hardships and privations of pioneer life without flinching, and to them, among others, is due the credit for opening the way to civilization hereabouts. Benjamin F. Knox was born December 26, 1831, in Rush county, Ind., was reared to a farm experience and after coming to Missouri attended the common schools of this township. When about 22 years of age, in August, 1853, he was united in marriage with Miss Eliza E. Caskey, whose birth occurred in Carroll county, Mo., September 14, 1839; she died in August, 1873, leaving five children: Alfred B., James B., Henry N., Robert L. and Cora E. Mr. Knox`s second marriage was consummated November 12, 1873, when Miss Ellen James became his wife. She was born in Iowa county, Wis., September 3, 1855. They have one child, John F. In 1854 Mr. K. moved to his present location, on which he has since resided, actively engaged in the pursuits of farming and stock raising. He owns 142 acres of cultivated land, is raising a good grade of stock, and in all his operations is proving himself in advanced, practical agriculturist. Politically he is a Democrat. He takes great interest in educational matters and in all things tending to the improvement of the county`s interests. In every way he is a good and useful citizen.
