Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Mantzey of near Dawn are nearing their golden wedding anniversary.
To celebrate the occasion, a family gathering will be help at the farm home this Sunday, Sept. 4. Because of the ill health of Mrs. Mantzey, who is a patient at Susan`s Nursing Home in Chillicothe, there will be no open house.
Mr. and Mrs. Mantzey were married Sept. 14, 1910 in Chillicothe, with the Rev. C. A. Gray officiating. Their married life has been spent in Livingston County.
They are the parents of four children: Howard Mantzey and Mrs. Velma Evans, Dawn; Mrs. Martha James, St. Louis and Mrs. Louise Pruett, Kansas City. They have 10 grandchildren.
"Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Mantzey Celebrate 42nd Anniversary" Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Mantzey of Dawn celebrated their forty second wedding anniversary Sunday, Sept. 14. They were honored with a 6 o`clock luncheon at their home. Guests included their son, Howard and family, and their daughter, Mrs. Everett Evans and famiy all of Dawn. They have two other daughters, Mrs. W. R. James of Over....."
"Most of Life Spent in Dawn Area: Once Operated Business in Chillicothe"
Charles A Mantzey, 84, well known Livingston countian and a native of Dawn, died at 9:05 last nite (Apr. 22, 1966) at the Chillicothe Hospital following a serious illness of less than three weeks.
He has been actie in his farming operations until entering the hospital on April 5.
Mr. Mantzey had spent his entire life in the Dawn community except for a period of 2½ years when he operated an automobile dealership and garage at 421 Washington St i Chillicothe.
He was a member of the Blue Mound Christian Church.
Charles Albert Mantzey was born March 3, 1882, at Dawn, the son of Gustav Leo and Margeret Johnson Mantzey. He attended the Stone rural school near Dawn and also Maupins Business College Chillicothe.
On. Sept. 14, 1910, he married Elma May Knox at Chillicothe. She preceeded him in death on Jan. 23, 1965.
Survivors are the one son, Howard Mantzey, Dawn, three daughters, Mrs. Velma Evans, Dawn, Mrs. Martha James, St. Louis, and Mrs. Louise Pruett, Kansas City, two sisters, Mrs. Martha Turner, Chillicothe, and Mrs. Bertha Porter, Wichita, KS and 10 grandchildren.
In addition to his wife he was preceeded in death by one child, four brothers and four sisters (incorrect-there were two children who died; many bros & sisters unaccounted for)
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 Sunday afternoon at the Dawn Federated Church with burial in the Collar Cem. near Dawn. The body will lie in state at the Norman funeral Home until noon Sun. at which time it will be remoed to the church to lie in state until the funeral hour.
