Notes:
Moved the family from NC to Maury Co, TN in 1806 when Enoch Sr. was six years old.
From the book of James d. Cook, page 202.
Joseph Haynes fought the British in North Carolina along with his brothers, James & John. He came with his family to Rowan county, N.C. in 1752, from Dauphin Co, PA. The part of Rowan Co, were they settled was formed into Iredell Co, in 1788. In about 1806, Joseph with others of the family removed to Maury Co, Tennessee, where he lived the rest of his life.
The Daughters of the Americal Revolution Patriot Index, pg 316, Copywrited 1967, confirms Joseph`s date of birth, date of death, but does not indicated his wife. He was a Private from North Carolina.
Affidavit and application for veterns benefits - Revolutionary Claim, under an Act of Congress, 7 June 1832. Affidavit, dated 11 Sept. 1832, summerizes his service as a volunteer from 1775 to 1781. He served five, three month enlistments and one, six month enlistment, all of which were in and around Rowan, and Mecklenburg, counties, and as far away as Fayetteville, North Carolina. During this service he saw action twice. The affidavit was provided by the National Archives, Washington D.C. Apparently, the claim was granted.
The Affidavit confirms the fact that Joseph Hayns moved from North Carolina in 1805 or 1806, and settled in Maury County, Tennessee. The Affidavit was written by a Court Clerk, and Joseph`s signature was with an "X", so this would suggest that he may have been illiterate.
