Military: Enlisted in Co B, 44th Indiana Infantry, at Pierceton, Kosciusko Co, IN, confirmed by cemetery records. Fought at Fort Donelson (Feb. 14-16, 1862), Shilo (April 6-7, 1862) and Stones River, TN (Dec. 30, 1862-Jan. 3, 1863). Received a severe thigh wound at Stones River, TN on Dec. 31, 1862 & died of his wounds. (The Forty-Fourth Indiana Volunteer Infantry by John Rerich, M.D. 1880 - found at Western Reserve Historical Society, 10825 East Boulevard, Cleveland, OH 44106) 9/4/01-e-mail from Eddie Widener. 1863: Buried in Ryerson Cemtery (Hillcrest), IN in 18th row.
