"A few years later (after homesteading in Nemaha Co, NE), he traded this property for 160 acres of land in Todd Creek Precinct, Johnson County, Nebraska. In 1873, he sold his farm and went into the grain business. Julius moved to Elk Creek, Nebraska, and built a store. Julius was the Secretary of the Grange Shipping Association until he was elected, in 1885, as the County Clerk of Johnson County, Nebraska. In 1883, Julius purchased land in Pawnee County, Nebraska. He farmed and raised livestock. He acquired 700 acres of land. He served as Secretary of the Board of Trade for three years. Julius was a member of the Blue Lodge, Furnas Chapter Number 9 and Mt. Horeb Commandery Number 10 of the Masonic Fraternity. He was also a member of the Grand Army of the Republic. In 1903, Julius was elected as a Nebraska State Senator, representing Tecumseh."
