H. Whitson. He began reading medicine under Dr. M. Tate and in 1852 began practice in Tazewell, Claiborne Co., TN. He spent 7 yrs. in Union Co., TN practicing medicine and then went to Maynardville and lived until his death. In 1860 Richard became a Circuit Clerk for 2 terms.
