Unexpected Travel

Published by at 6:49 am under Fall 2008

Last week we learned that Dianna’s Aunti Reah had suffered what the doctors are calling a massive stroke.  As we traveled toward Denton, Dianna spent much of her time on the phone with her cousin Carrie, who is like a second sister to her.  By the weekend her Unkle Linc had been placed in a facility and everyone became aware that Aunti Reah’s prognosis was grave.  After some more phone calls last evening,  we decided we needed to be in California to be with the family.

We went to Jennings and tearfully let them know we would not be here for Thanksgiving, and that we will try very hard to return so we can still have Christmas together.  They understand, but we are all sad about it.

This morning we will leave Denton and make the trip to Denair, CA.  It is about 1600 miles so it will take at least 3 days to get there.  We will have very little if any internet connectivity during that time, so if anyone needs us, they should call.

I’m so sorry to hear about Reah. I know how close Dianna is to all of her family. My prayers are with you all.

Are you taking the trailer or just your cab?

We are in Tucumcari, NM tonight. Tomorrow night will probably be in Arizona somewhere and probably Lancaster, CA on Thanksgiving. Then up to Denair on Friday. It’s beginning to look like we may pick up Dianna’s Mom on our way.

We are taking our house with us. We debated all the ways of getting there and that seemed to make the most sense. Since we have no idea how long we’ll be there it will be nice to have our own place.

It’s kinda too bad that you didn’t go North when you left the Widener’s, but you needed a grandkid fix. Dayna and Chris will discover that the older their kids get, the less they can be certain that everyone will be together on Holidays. I can remember when we had 20 or more for dinner; this year, it looks as though there will be just six.

Life keeps moving on and changing, and it doesn’t get any easier, but we have to accept what has to be done. I wish that Dayna and Chris could join us for turkey bird; that, too, is wishful thinking. But I have lots of great memories.

Keep us posted, when you can, about all the Seniors in CA. It won’t be a joyous season for any of you this year, but we know that the Lord will see you through. (The Gaithers have a great song about that).
